“Go and Make Disciples”
Text: Matthew 28:18–20
Introduction
The Great Commission is not merely a suggestion from Jesus Christ; it is His final command to every believer. Before ascending into heaven, Jesus entrusted His followers with the responsibility of taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The mission of the Church is not complete until every tribe, tongue, people, and nation has heard the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
The Great Commission reveals God’s heart for humanity. From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s desire to redeem lost men and women and bring them into a relationship with Himself. As believers, we are called to participate in this divine mission.
1. The Authority Behind the Commission
Jesus declared:
«”All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:18)»
The Great Commission is backed by the authority of the risen Christ. We do not go in our own strength, wisdom, or ability. We go under the authority of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Because Jesus possesses all authority, no nation is beyond His reach, no culture is beyond His influence, and no sinner is beyond His power to save.

2. The Command to Go
Jesus said:
«”Go ye therefore…” (Matthew 28:19)»

Going may involve:

3. The Mission: Make Disciples
Jesus did not simply say, “Make converts.” He said:

The goal of missions is not merely to increase church attendance but to raise mature followers of Jesus Christ who reflect His character and continue His work.
Discipleship involves:

– Encouraging spiritual growth
– Equipping believers for ministry

4. The Scope of the Commission
Jesus said:

The Church must have a global vision. While we minister locally, we must also carry a burden for unreached peoples and nations where Christ is not yet known.

5. The Promise of Christ’s Presence
Jesus concluded with a powerful promise:
«”And surely I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)»

Mission work may involve challenges, persecution, opposition, and sacrifice, but the promise remains: Jesus is with us.

Application
Every believer should ask:
1. Am I actively sharing the Gospel?
2. Am I helping others grow as disciples?

The Great Commission is the responsibility of every Christian, not just pastors, evangelists, or missionaries.

The Great Commission remains the heartbeat of Jesus Christ. Millions around the world still need to hear the Gospel. God is calling His Church to rise with urgency, compassion, and obedience.
